G20 Leaders Prepare for New Delhi Declaration Amidst Global Challenges

The eagerly anticipated New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration of G20 is nearing completion, as announced by India’s sherpa, Amitabh Kant, ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for September 9-10. Kant revealed that this joint communique, designed to secure a consensus among the world’s leaders, will prominently feature the voices of the global south and developing nations.

The drafting process has faced unprecedented challenges due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has divided G20 nations and hindered the issuance of communiques during India’s presidency. However, the commitment to crafting a communique has received support from the United States, with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressing willingness to collaborate with India on this endeavor.

In addition to addressing global conflicts, India’s G20 presidency is committed to focusing on key priorities such as sustainable growth, climate finance, digital infrastructure, energy transition, health, education, and international peace. Amitabh Kant highlighted the importance of accelerating progress towards the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and emphasized India’s groundbreaking achievements in digital payments.

As the G20 leaders gather for their summit, expectations are high for the New Delhi Declaration to pave the way for a more inclusive and human-centric approach to global development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his optimism for productive discussions, signaling the potential for charting a new path towards a better future.
